Mandatory 10 Digit Dialing for 705 Area Code

**Repost from Dail10.ca

Between now and January 15, 2011, consumers and businesses must reprogram telephone  and communications equipment to comply with 10-digit local dialing.

With the growing popularity of communications services, the demand for new numbers will soon exceed the supply.  That is why, as of January 15, 2011, 10-digit dialing – the area code followed by the telephone number, will apply  to all local communications in the areas served by the 705 area code. This dialing method paves the way for  the addition of the new 249 area code doubling the available phone numbers in the area.
Important Dates
as of January 15, 2011
People living and working in Ontario’s 705 region must dial the area code followed by the seven-digit phone number  for all local calls. A network announcement will remind callers who forget to include the area code that they need to do  so from now on. An important point to keep in mind is that data transmission may be affected by the announcement.  It is therefore critical to adopt 10-digit dialing and reprogram all telephone and communications equipment to comply  with 10-digit local dialing before these measures come into effect on January 15, 2011.

as of march 5, 2011

Calls made without the area code will not be completed.
as of march 19, 2011

Area code 249 will be gradually introduced as new numbers are assigned to customers. This new code will co-exist  with area code 705 within the same geographic area. The new code will simply join the current one, with no impact  on existing telephone numbers – a real advantage. This new area code will only be assigned to new numbers
How to prepare
Businesses should start preparing now

What’s hiding in your closet?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:20 pm

Does your computer room closet look something like this?

Messy!

Even though you may think everything’s working fine, this spaghetti and meatball cabling mess is costing you money!

  • All the equipment with the flashy, blinking green lights needs to be kept cool. Your servers, switches, routers and modems generate heat and they need to be kept nice and cool to stay running smoothly. Tangled cables all around the equipment stop air flow. When air can’t move around the rack, equipment heats up and will affect the performance and shorten the life span of your equipment
  • Imagine being the technician that’s called in to figure out why your computer won’t connect to the internet? On average, it will take 45 minutes to simply trace through these cables just to find the devices in question. 45 minutes that you’re probably paying close to $70.00 per hour for! A few calls like that in a year and you could have paid for the costs of the cable cleanup project.
  • If your computer can’t connect to the network and you have a technician spending an hour tracing cables in the closet, what’s that downtime costing you? If the cables were neatly installed with everything labeled accurately your downtime could be minimized significantly.
  • Have you ever gone to add another computer to your network only to find that you are out of switch ports? There’s a good chance there’s cables connected to your switch that are no longer in use but with a huge mess of cables how would you ever know? Running out and buying a new switch might is a waste of money if you have ports with cables connected but never used.
  • If you’re the IT guy in charge of this mess, how does this messy cabling closet reflect on you? If you’re having issues on the network and the boss walks into this mess to ask you what’s going on, what impression do they have when they see this jungle? Do you come off looking professional, organized and look as though you have everything under control?

Cleaning up a closet like this and turning it into something you’ll want to show off is probably less costly then you think.

How many phone numbers do you have?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:45 pm

How frustrated are your customers with calling your office, then having to call your cell or with not being sure which mailbox to leave you a message in?

Wouldn’t it be nice if your customers could simply call you at one number and be confident that if you’re available, no matter where you are, they’ll be able to speak to you.

How many more calls would you get? How much more in sales could those calls result in? I know myself, that the suppliers I call the most to purchase from are the ones I know I can reach at one number, at any time.

Isn’t it time you made it easier for your customers to get a hold of you?

It often doesn’t require a significant investment in new hardware, and can mean the difference of customers calling you, or calling one of your competitors whom they know they will reach, first call, every time.

Unified communications can enable you to harness the collective thoughts, creativity and energy of your dispersed workforce to accelerate time to market, speed time to solve customers’ problems, and to create competitive advantage.

At the heart of UC is the presence engine which monitors the status, activity and location of people, devices, and applications so, for example, you can easily see who is available and best situated to help you at any point in time. Once the appropriate person has been identified, UC enables a more natural, intuitive communication using any mix of voice, video, texting, instant messaging, data and application sharing over a suitable device – desk phone, mobile phone, video appliance, Personal Computer.
